Peanut Farming

Glen Martin, left, and John Dyke, connect an eight-row lister to a tractor before preparing a 30-acre peanut field on Martin & Sons Farm Monday, April 6, 2009, near Brownfield, Texas. Peanuts make up about 10% of the farm's 4,500 acres. The battered peanut industry is involved in a lobbying and public relations campaign in Washington, a delicate strategy to help the industry rebound after the salmonella outbreak linked to the Peanut Corp. of America. -- AP photo/Geoffrey McAllister

I recently did an assignment for the associated press highlighting a peanut farm in Brownfield, Texas. Read NPR's article, THE INFLUENCE GAME: Peanut industry wants help too to see more photos and read the accompanying article.

Over the past week I've been photographing and working on this video of the Avalanche-Journal All-City basketball teams. Of the 12 portraits, the below photograph of Krista Ford if my favorite.

Cold in Texas

In most corners of the country this kind of weather is no big deal - but in west texas in March it caught a few people off guard. Having experienced cold midwest winters and rocky mountain winters, I'm not sure I've ever felt such strong winds mixed with snow as I did when photographing this particular morning... or maybe having spent 5 of my last 6 winters in warm weather locations (Rio de Janeiro, Phoenix, and Texas) has made me soft.
